What is a WSE and its Legal Requirements

The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 is a legal document requiring users and owners of any size pressure system to have a Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) in place and have this inspected against at certain intervals.

This includes a pressure vessel inspection (PVI), gauges, safety valves, pipework, level indicators and pressure and temperature switches. This legislation also covers regular ongoing maintenance though regulation 5 of PUWER to ensure the pressure system is in good working order and remains within its operating limits.

As well as the welfare implications of not having a WSE in place, failure to comply with PSSR is a criminal offence and can lead to prosecution and unlimited fines.
